SCULPTURAL HANDMADE JEWELLERY

Jelka Quintelier’s latest work is a tribute to the raw, untamed beauty of London’s riverbanks and rugged landscape. The enduring force of nature, and the relentless elements that shape our world. Inspired when going out mudlarking, each piece she creates evokes an exploration of shapes and textures, resembling eroded rock formations.

Gemstones are embedded in unexpected ways, like hidden treasures nestled within the earth. The jagged, rhythmic shapes create a tactile experience. Handcarved from and cast in precious metals, the sculpted shapes are a tribute to nature’s resilience and power.

INSPIRED BY MUDLARKING AND SCAVENGING

My fascination for treasure hunting and scavenging very much comes to live when I go mudlarking. Mudlarking is the urban equivalent of beachcombing. Historical treasures are being washed up on the foreshore of the Thames in London every day, waiting to be rediscovered.

The enjoyment of mudlarking is the search itself, the anticipation of finding something historical, surprising or out of the ordinary. I usually take a small selection of the treasures home as reference and inspiration for my artwork.
